18 Year Old Female With Convulsions After Getting Hit In Head By Volleyball. - Page #1

Author: Sagir Bera, DO, MPH, MS Co Author #1: Holly McNulty, MD Patient Presentation: An 18-year-old patient was warming-up for a volleyball tournament when she was hit in the forehead by a volleyball. She had an immediate headache with photophobia, phonophobia, weakness, nausea, and dizziness. As the patient was escorted back to the training room she dropped to the floor and began having tonic-clonic movements. Rizatriptan was administered with resolution of convulsions within twenty minutes. Patient had no post-ictal state and remembered the entirety of events. She was immediately symptom free and remained symptom free. History: Prior concussion x 2 Anxiety Depression ADHD Physical Exam: Unremarkable general exam. Neurologic exam unremarkable, including normal mental status, cognition, cranial nerves, motor strength, reflexes, coordination, gait, balance, and sensory exam. Click here to continue.
