2016 Award Winners Announced at 25th AMSSM Annual Meeting Dallas, TX - The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) presented the following awards during its 25th Annual Meeting held April 15-20, 2016 at the Sheraton Dallas (Downtown) Hotel. Best Overall Research Award – John Leddy, MD for his research titled, “Predictors of Recovery in Adolescents with Acute Sport-Related Concussion (SRC).” Harry Galanty Young Investigator Award – Drew Glover, MD for his research titled, “A Survey of Alcohol Use and Effects on College Athletes Year 2.” NCAA Research Award – Erin Hammer, MD for her research titled, “Association Between Female Athlete Triad Cumulative Risk Assessment and In-Season Stress Fracture in Collegiate Cross-Country Athletes.” The NCAA Award for best research presentation addresses the health and safety issues of college athletes. Best Overall Case Presentations – 2016 Resident Scholarship Award – Rathna Nuti, MD Luci Olewinski, MD Joshua Rothenberg, DO David Siebert, MD Jillian (Jill) Sylvester, MD Isaac Syrop, MD About the AMSSM Annual Meeting: The conference features lectures and research addressing the most challenging topics in sports medicine today including concussion and mental health, tendinopathy, running medicine with a focus on nutrition, mechanics, youth running and ultramarathon, thromboembolic events, diabetes, sideline management of abdominal and chest trauma, low back pain, emerging technologies, bone health including a stress fracture workshop and treatment/interpretation of bone edema on MRI and more. About the AMSSM: AMSSM is a multi-disciplinary organization of 3,000 sports medicine physicians dedicated to education, research, advocacy and the care of athletes of all ages. The majority of AMSSM members are primary care physicians with fellowship training and added qualification in sports medicine who then combine their practice of sports medicine with their primary specialty. AMSSM includes members who specialize solely in non-surgical sports medicine and serve as team physicians at the youth level, NCAA, NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, MLS and NHL, as well as with Olympic teams.
