About the AMSSM Foundation
Since its inception in 1991, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine has led its membership as a voice in the field of sports medicine. In January of 1997, a strategic planning team of the AMSSM, made up of members from its leadership, convened in Tempe, Arizona. Among the recommendations it made to its Board of Directors was the establishment of this Foundation dedicated solely to the development, funding, and member / public relations in support of the Society’s missions and goals.
The mission of the AMSSM Foundation is to support and benefit the operations of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. The AMSSM Foundation is dedicated to the support & recognition of excellence in Sports Medicine education, research and scientific activities, while promoting opportunities for humanitarian outreach. The 501c(3) non-profit educational foundation serves as the fundraising arm of AMSSM, accepting contributions, sponsorship support and grants from individuals and corporate supporters. The Foundation seeks to fund programs, research, education and initiatives developed by AMSSM.

In assuming these more external responsibilities of development, the Foundation frees the society to focus more clearly on its mission, including the initiation of goals, maintenance and reinforcement of existing committees, their programs and the initiation of new opportunities in education, research, fellowship and collegiality.
