Bedside Ultrasound revealed a widened left 6th sternochondral joint with sternal cortical irregularity Case Photo #2 and a displaced sternal bone fragment with adjacent edema. The displaced bone fragment was identified by acoustic shadowing Case Photo #1 .

For comparison normal 5th SC joint on US. Case Photo #3

X-ray Sternum found a subtle periostitis or cortical thickening suspected in the lower sternum, etiology indeterminate.
