X-ray of his right knee showed old Osgood-Schlatter disease at the tibial tuberosity.

Diagnostic ultrasound revealed a mild effusion of the suprapatellar recess, fiber disruption of the MCL, and irregularity of the medial patellofemoral ligament. Comparative views of the left knee were normal Case Photo #1 . The right knee has an MPFL disruption and patella avulsion fracture Case Photo #2 .

MRI was consistent with a transient dislocation of the patella, complete disruption of the medial patellar retinaculum and MPFL with adjacent hemorrhage and edema, an avulsion fracture of the medial patella, and a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL.
