Patient Presentation:
A 19 year-old male presented to the athletic training room with the chief complaint of painful red eyes and photophobia. It had started about three days previously. The symptoms were predominately in the left eye. He was also experiencing blurry vision and increased tearing, especially with activity. The patient did wear contact lens. There was no trauma or injury. Review of systems was negative.
History:
Past medical history was negative. No medications or supplements.
Physical Exam:
Generally well, fit, and in no acute distress.
Head: Normocephalic, atraumatic.
Eye: Extraocular muscles intact, Pupils equal, round, and reactive to light and accomodation, scleral erythema, anterior chamber haziness. Fluorescein negative. Visual acuity: Left 20/200 and right 20/30 without correction. Fundal exam revealed no obvious hemmorhages or neovascularization.
Neck: No adenopathy or thyroid nodules
Cardiovascular: The heart demonstrated a regular rate and rhythm without the presence of a murmur.
Resp: Lungs clear to auscultation
Neuro: Cranial nerves 2-12 were intact.
