AMSSM President Keynote Speaker for London Marathon Medicine Conference The conference focused on medical and science topics related to the care of marathon athletes. Dr. O’Connor was one of five international speakers at the conference and delivered a talk on “Overheating: Managing Exertional Heat Illness in the Injured Runner.” The following day, he observed the medical care team and provided consultation on exertional heat stroke cases and their management. Dr. O’Connor stated that he enjoyed the opportunity, “It was an honor to participate in this international event as a representative of the AMSSM. With our presentation here, and our member’s presentations at the International Olympic Committee’s Advanced Team Physician Course and the IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport, we are pursuing both our mission and vision of becoming a worldwide leader in sports medicine at an incredible pace. It's an exciting time to be a member of AMSSM!" The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) is a multi-disciplinary organization of physicians whose members are dedicated to education, research, collaboration and fellowship within the field of Sports Medicine. Founded in 1991, the AMSSM is now comprised of over 1800 Sports Medicine Physicians whose goal is to provide a link between the rapidly expanding core of knowledge related to sports medicine and its application to patients in a clinical setting.
