Contact: AMSSM/NCAA Pre-Conference Workshop Hollywood, FL – April 15, 2015– Dr. Jonathan Drezner, MD, University of Washington Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, will serve as chair of the “AMSSM/NCAA Pre-Conference Workshop” today at the 24th Annual Meeting of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine in Hollywood, Florida. Dr. DiFiori, MD, University of California Los Angeles Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, will serve as moderator. The 2015 conference, with more than 1,500 sports medicine physicians attending from throughout the United States and around the world, explores current decisions, controversies and best practices related to return-to-play decision making that defines the clinical practice of sports medicine. The Pre-Conference Workshop at this year’s annual meeting features “Key Issues for the College Team Physician”. Discussions include:
The “Key Issues for the College Team Physician” workshop outlines NCAA initiatives and guidelines with respect to concussion, football contact at practice, and medical care of athletes. There is also a focus on ECG abnormalities at risk for sudden death, pre-participation screening, and mental health management in athletes. About the AMSSM Annual Meeting: The conference features lectures and research addressing the most challenging topics in sports medicine today including issues surrounding FIFA & soccer injuries, ACL injury prevention, cardiovascular disease, degenerative joint disease, the power of physical activity in maintaining a healthy population, baseball injuries, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, sports ultrasound, pediatric sports medicine, groin pain/athletic pubalgia and provocative issues dealing with return-to-play decision making.
