Patient Presentation:
20 year old male football player presents for a preparticipation physical and has a swollen right knee.
History:
20 year old male with no past medical history presents to his college training room for a physical complaining of a painless, swollen right knee for three years. He came to California from Alaska by way of Arizona. He has no other joint complaints and denied any trauma to his knee. Other than swelling, he has no other symptoms such as mechanical locking or giving way or deficits in his ability to play. He has been lifting weights and jogging in preparation for the season. His knee is persistently swollen.
Physical Exam:
His right knee has a large effusion with passive range of motion of 5 degrees to 120 degrees. He has no patellar tenderness, apprehension, or laxity. His McMurray is negative. He has full strength of the right hip and knee with no pain. No other joint involvement was noted. He had no obvious rashes.
