OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS: Dr James Garrick delivered the Annual Hough Memorial lecture at the 2008 Rendezvous II Annual Meeting held in Las Vegas Nevada. Dr Garrick’s talk, The Child Dancer: the forgotten Athlete. Ballet is a female dominated sport with 77% of reported injuries in female participants. 41% of all injuries are overuse and an additional 35% related to sprains and strains. Almost all injuries are in the lower back and leg with foot injuries leading at 25.9% followed by knee (20.6%), ankle (17%), hip 9.3%, leg (8.6%) and back (7.3%). Dr Garrick discussed the presentation and rehabilitation of these common injuries. David O. Hough was one of the original founders of AMSSM. His career from 1978 to his untimely death in 1996 was filled with the orderly development of Sports Medicine as a discipline. He was considered a fine teacher, role model and leader at Michigan State University.
