American Medical Society for Sports Medicine For Immediate Release May 07, 2007		Back
OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS: The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine recently awarded Jim Moriarity, MD, the annual Founder’s Award for excellence in sports medicine. The Founder’s award is given each year to the individual or group or organization who exemplifies the best we can be or do in sports medicine. The award was given at the annual Meeting this April in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. James Moriarity, M.D. has served as the Head University and Head Team Physician at the University of Notre Dame since 1987. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and holds a CAQ in Sports Medicine. He is an active member and Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and a Charter member and Past-President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) was organized in 1991 by physicians who recognized the need for an organization within the field of sports medicine that approached athletes, exercising individuals and teams comprehensively with consultative and continuous care of their orthopedic, medical, nutritional and psychosocial issues. Although sports medicine concepts are often thought of in conjunction with professional and elite athletes, these concepts apply to athletes of all levels including grade school, high school, college and recreational athletes. AMSSM is comprised of over 1000 Sports Medicine Physicians whose goal is to provide a link between the rapidly expanding core of knowledge related to sports medicine and its application to patients in a clinical setting.
