Exercise-induced Abdominal Pain In A High-level Athlete - Page #3

Lab Studies:
Vitals were stable. Patient first went to his primary care physician who ordered labs. he had a complete metabolic panel and complete blood count that was within normal limits. Thyroid function tests and lipid panel were also within normal limits.

Consultations:
A pulmonologist did spirometry and a chest xray, a gastroenterologist did a right upper quadrant ultrasound, and a vascular surgeon did imaging to rule out a vasoconstrictive lesion consisting of a CT, ultrasound, and ankle brachial indices. All of those tests were normal.

At our Emory Sports Medicine office we did a right upper quadrant musculoskeletal ultrasound. During palpation & imaging of the rectus abdominis muscle, patient experienced mild discomfort, at the same location but of lesser-intensity, as his pain at race pace.
