Knee Pain And Radiculopathy In A 47-year-old Female Runner - Page #3

Lab Studies:
none

Other Studies:
1) MRI of the left knee without contrast: 14 x 13 x 17 mm fusiform T2 hyperintense mass with an associated tail sign closely related to the course of the tibial nerve within the popliteal fossa. Findings were most compatible with a peripheral nerve sheath tumor.

2) X-Ray of the left knee: AP lateral tunnel sunrise view showed a patellar tilt of the left knee

3) MRI of the left knee with and without contrast Case Photo #1 , Case Photo #2 : well circumscribed 14 mm mass of the popliteal fossa shows avid solid enhancement with appearance strongly favoring a neurogenic tumor. Partial-thickness tear of the medial gastrocnemius tendon and changes consistent with chondromalacia

Consultations:
Patient was referred to an orthopedic oncologist, who recommended to obtain a biopsy of the mass to confirm that it is a benign tumor before pursuing surgical interventions. The biopsy results were consistent with a schwannoma and the patient elected to move forward with surgical excision of the tumor.
