Patient Presentation:
A 9 year-old boy presented with right elbow pain after playing catch with his dad. The pain was localized to the medial and lateral aspects of the elbow. He rated the pain 7/10. He denied numbness, tingling or weakness in the hand. He used ice and ibuprofen for the pain, with improvement. He denied trauma or previous injury to the arm. The patient played recreational little league baseball, predominantly in a non-pitching position though he did occasionally pitch. He also played football, where he was the quarterback of his team.
History:
The patient had no significant past medical or surgical history.
Physical Exam:
He was a well-appearing male, in no acute distress. He had swelling and erythema surrounding right elbow, with no signs of bruising or trauma. He had full range of motion of the cervical spine and left elbow. There was decreased flexion and extension in the right elbow. He was tender to palpation over the medial and lateral epicondyles of the right elbow. Strength, reflexes and sensation were intact throughout bilateral upper limbs.
