Soccer Player Returns To The Game, But So Does The Hip Pain - Page #4

Working Diagnosis:
Hip Capsulitis

Treatment:
Patient underwent an Ultrasound-guided hip joint hydrodilatation: 35 mL sterile 0.9 Normal Saline and corticosteroid injection with 1 mL of 6 mg/mL Betamethasone were injected into the intra-articular space of the femoral- acetabular joint Case Photo #3 . She was advised to follow up with orthopedic surgery and continue physical therapy.

Outcome:
Given the return of pain and stiffness of the hip and strong desire to return to full play for the current season, the patient opted for an Ultrasound-guided hip joint hydrodilatation and corticosteroid injection followed by intensive physical therapy. She experienced improvement to full activity and finished the soccer season.

Editor's Comments:
Treatment considerations for the treatment of adhesive capsulitis of the hip may be underdiagnosed as compared to its shoulder counterpart. Similar treatment modalities exist such as pressure dilation, corticosteroid injection, manipulation under anesthesia and arthroscopic surgery.
