The American Medical Society For Sports Medicine and SelfCareNet Partner to develop a Self-Care Symptom-based Healthcare Information “I wanted to be involved authoring the SCN sports information because the demand for pre-visit sports information is growing,” said Dr. Madden. My patients want to have access to credible information 24X7 to will help answer questions such as “Should I call my physician?” or “What can I do for home care?” or “What is a credible Web site that I can visit for more information?” Based on my experience the SCN sports information will meet a growing demand for sports related information.” The SCN sports information will be made available to patients, constituents, members and employees through office-based physicians, hospitals, Managed Care Organizations and employers to help them make decisions about sports related injuries and symptoms. The sports symptom/injury-based information will answer real life scenarios such as: My son was playing football and sustained a concussion? What symptoms do I need to watch for? When should I take him to the doctor? When can he play again? I just injured my back lifting a heavy object. I have pain going down my right leg? What can I do to feel better? When should I call my doctor? My knee began to hurt over the kneecap after running. What may be causing my pain? How can I treat it? Is it safe to exercise again and when? What exercises can I do to get better? “The SelfCareNet information is well suited for lay people to access easy to understand, easy to use information that will help them answer their sports related health questions” said Richard Thompson, CEO, and SelfCareNet. “An important part of the company’s formula for credibility is to have the information authored by a physician and peer-reviewed, the AMSSM is well known in the industry for their credibility, innovation and excellence, and we are happy they will peer-review the information.” “AMSSM is pleased to be able to assist in providing high quality patient information to its members and their patients” said Craig Young, M.D., President AMSSM.
